The city council is gathering information on the scale and impact of flooding in the city, following the unprecedented rainfall experienced in Leicester and across the county on 22 June this year.

The city council has outlined an approach involving more council house building, acquiring vacant properties, and working with partners involved in bringing forward Extra Care and supported living schemes as a way to create much-needed housing, with a £150m investment.

It also looks at potential development sites for inclusion in future local plans.

On-street electric vehicle charging bays are set to be introduced across Leicester city centre later this year.

Leicester City Council is proposing to create 38 new electric vehicle charging bays at ten locations in and around the city centre following a successful bid for £480,000 of funding from the Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.

In a response to climate change and to help improve biodiversity, a new ten-year plan to manage Leicester’s vast urban grassland has been rolled out.

Around 14 per cent of Leicester’s total surface area is council-managed grassland. That includes parks, public squares, roadside verges, grassed areas on housing estates, meadows, and nature areas.
But rather than keeping every square metre of this valuable resource manicured and match-ready all year round, a new strategy sets out how managed areas of longer grass can benefit the environment and provide space for nature to thrive.

Having been given the green light from Leicester City Council to demolish existing commercial units in the surrounding area for the planned Lee Circle 92-apartment complex, recent news has revealed the asking price has now dropped by £300,000.

Work is yet to begin on the site has since going on the market last October and the price has now dropped from £2.5 million to £2.2 million which has got potential interested parties talking.
